Natsume's Book of Friends

Natsume Yuujinchou depicts the life of Takashi Natsume, a typical 15-year-old boy who craves a mundane existence. Unfortunately, like his late grandmother Reiko, Natsume can spot “youkai,” or spirits. Although he inherited the “Book of Friends,” a collection of contracts that binds the youkai from Reiko, these spirits have remained trapped as Reiko never called upon their names. Hence, the desperate spirits relentlessly hound Natsume, imploring him to break their contracts for freedom.
While some well-meaning youkai seek Natsume’s assistance, others pose a potential threat. That’s where Madara, a spirited feline in disguise as Nyanko-sensei, comes in. Despite the often humorous facade, Madara is Natsume’s self-appointed guardian, harboring concealed intentions for his association with the boy.
Natsume Yuujinchou is a compelling supernatural series that follows Natsume’s struggles to preserve a standard existence while juggling human and spirit worlds. Ultimately, he imparts vital life lessons from his experiences.
